The only son of André Mugneret and Jeanne Gibourg, Dr. Georges Mugneret-Gibourg – a respected ophthalmologist with a keen passion for wine – took over his parents' Vosne-Romanée estate in the 1950s.Georges expanded the domaine's vineyards and purchased prized sites of his own in Grands Crus Clos Vougeot, Échezeaux and Ruchottes-Chambertin, as well as 1ers Crus Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Les Chaignots' and Chambolle-Musigny 'Les Feusselottes', bottling wines under both the family domaine and his own label.After George's premature death in 1988, the holdings were merged by his widow, Jacqueline, and their daughters, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée, to create one property in 2009: Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg.The current generation, cousins Marion and Lucie, have taken back control of parcels that had been previously sharecropped and tend 8ha of vines across nine distinguished appellations. Now they are further refining their grandfather's perfectionist approach.Top-quality fruit is partially destemmed and vinified using native yeasts before ageing in new oak and bottled without fining or filtration. The result is a stunning array of singular wines made in minuscule quantities, combining seductive berry perfumes with deep, mineral complexity and fine-grained tannins.A masterclass in purity and finesse, these top-tier Pinot Noirs are among the most sought-after in Burgundy.
