Selosse, Agrapart, Prevost, Egly-Ouriet... that's what you get if you ask Tommy Grimshaw and his old mate Ali Fraquelli to name the producers they admire - the kings of Grower Champagne. These names are the key to understanding Yarn - an ambitious English wine project from Tommy (head winemaker at Langham in Dorset) and Ali (assistant winemaker at Jim Barry Wines in South Australia).Tommy and Ali started out in wine together, and Yarn is their chance to collaborate again in the way they’ve always wanted. They are serious about top Grower Champagne, and convinced that English sparkling wine has the potential to match it. Yarn sets about applying the Grower Champagne template to English wine - with no compromises.To keep quality at its maximum level, each Yarn release is limited to 1,000 bottles, with the fruit coming from a single grower, selected each year according to the vintage. As with the Grower Champagnes that inspire them, winemaking is oxidative and low-intervention, with wild yeast fermentations, oak ageing, and no fining or filtration.The resulting wine is low pressure, with great richness and depth, tempered by a natural freshness. For fans of artisanal sparkling wine, Yarn is one of the most exciting wine projects in England.
